Yashoda Hospital Inaugurates Hepafiltered NICUs & PICUs
Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad recently inaugurated neonatal intensive care
units (NICU) and paediatric intensive care units (PICU). The units were inaugurated
by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh Narayan Datt Tiwari.
Said Dr GS Rao, Executive Director, Yashoda Group, "The neonatal and paediatric
ICUs are a vital requirement in our state to reduce neonatal mortality rate
and to provide quality care for especially low birth weight babies. Last two
decades have witnessed a steady improvement in the quality of peri-natal care
in India with a national average of 41/1,000 Infant Mortal Rate (IMR). We must
improve further infant care, so that the IMR come down to at least 10/1,000
in our country."
Despite advancements in other fields of medical sciences, Andhra Pradesh is
still lagging behind in controlling IMR. "Keeping the need of such high-risk
neonate, we have to take initiative to provide best available medical care to
those neonates for their intact survival and to give healthy babies to our society,"
he added.
He also expressed the need to focus on specialising in the care of ill or premature
new born infants. "We have to focus on this area of neonatal and paediatric
ICUs, improve the facilities and infrastructure to manage more and more infants,"
he said. Besides pre-maturity and extreme low birth weight, common diseases
treated in the NICU will include perinatal asphyxia, extreme cases of preeclampsia/eclampsia,
major birth defects, sepsis, neonatal jaundice, respiratory distress syndrome
due to immaturity of the lungs, including neonatal surgical emergencies, post-operative
care and ventilator facilities.
Said G Ravender Rao, Managing Director, Yashoda Hospitals, "In addition
to NICU and PICU, we have paediatric sub speciality facilities like paediatric
nephrology, cardiology and oncology to take care of all paediatric patients.
Our objective is to provide superior and affordable medical services to all
of our patients."
