Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital

Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital of Ahalia Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has come a long way since its inception in the year 2005. The monthly average of patients in the Hospital has made a stupendous increase from mere 652 patients in 2005 to 1633 in 2006. The year 2007 saw an average monthly patient turnout of 2082

Significant Achievements in the Last One Year

The Hospital received ISO 9001:2000 certification in December 2007. It also grabbed an appreciation award from Kerala Pollution Control Board in June 2008 for being environment friendly among big hospitals in Kerala.

New Initiatives

Plans are there to bring up a day-care eye hospital in every district (14) of Kerala with an optical shop in the same premises

Biggest Challenges

"Patients in Kerala are well-versed with technology, medication, ancillary benefits, perquisites and patient rights. And living up to such a customer's expectation is really a big challenge"

Today's customer has come of age from a stereotyped 'patient' to a go-getter in the healthcare industry. "The customer, especially in Kerala is well-versed with the technology, medication, ancillary benefits, perquisites and patient rights. And living up to such a customer's expectation is really a big challenge," opines Dr Anup Chirayath, Medical Director. The immediate challenge in front of the Hospital is its accessibility since it is situated on the outskirts of the city. "We are trying to get over that by arranging shuttle services and improving the approach road," says Dr Chirayath.

Adoption of New Technology

The Hospital has all the state-of-the-art facilities including 'Lasik' which are the prerequisites to maintain quality healthcare. "We have a fully functional waste water treatment plant, a potable water treatment plant and rainwater harvesting farms," explains Dr Chirayath. It has brought in the finger-print enabled attendance rolls. Ground works are being done to bring up a fully interoperable e-MRD. All the departments are connected through a LAN protocol of computer connectivity. EPBX facility is available in the Hospital with extension numbers in all departments. "We are contemplating on the implementation of a W-LAN facility in the Hospital premises," declares Dr Chirayath.

Quantum of Investment The Hospital has close to 100 computers including desktops and laptops. "We are equipped with most of the modern machineries sourced from around the world like Z-100 Zyoptix work station, orbscan aberrometer, sovereign white star phacoemulsification systems, Zeiss operating microscope, Yag Laser Unit, Accurus vitrectomy system for providing eye-care at International standards," states Dr Chirayath.

Improved Productivity and Output

The Hospital is doing community work extensively including school screening and health awareness programmes. It has a full-fledged marketing department which conducts regular marketing activities including various media advertisements. "We also have an incentive system for our marketing staff. These are some of the measures taken to increase the output," states Dr Chirayath.
