Tata Memorial Launches Website on Pancreatic and Periampullary Cancer

The Hospital claims it to be Asia's first website which is solely dedicated to pancreatic and periampullary cancer

Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai has launched a website dedicated exclusively to pancreatic and periampullary cancer. The Hospital claims it to be Asia's first website which is solely dedicated to pancreatic and periampullary cancer. The website is named as 'www.pancreaticcancerindia.com' which aims to create awareness amongst the patients, healthcare professionals and common masses about pancreatic and periampullary tumors. "Pancreatic cancer is ranked fifth in the cause of cancer-related deaths in the US and is seen in increasing numbers at tertiary cancer centres in India," said Dr Shailesh Shrikhande, Associate Professor and Consultant Surgeon, Gastrointestinal and Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital. He further added, "This website will act as a forum to patients and the pancreatic cancer medical community in India and will enable pancreatologists, oncologists, general practitioners, radiologists, pathologists, palliative specialists, nurses and patients to connect and interact freely with each other. The website will also update all the relevant information on various aspects of pancreatic and periampullary cancer."

Dr Sudeep Gupta, Associate Professor and Medical Oncologist, Tata Memorial Hospital said, "The annual pancreatic cancer load of India is likely to increase in the near future because of the increase in older population. The situation calls for multi-centric studies, more systematic approach to document outcomes at all levels and identify potentially preventable risk factors associated with pancreatic cancer in India. Such a website will act as a catalyst to connect the community at large."

The website has different sections for patients and professionals, where they can post their queries and feedbacks. Said Dr Umesh Mahantshetty, Associate Professor and Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Tata Memorial Hospital, "There is a need for improving knowledge and awareness of this disease among healthcare professionals and general population and the website shall bridge this void in our country." Thus, pancreaticcancerindia.com is all set to explore, discuss and share valuable information on the outcome of pancreatic and preampullary cancer in India.
