Siemens launches South Asia's Most Compact and Only Wide Bore 3 Tesla MRI
Magnetom Verio, a worldwide innovation on the MRI high-field
market that optimises parallel imaging, improves visualisation and allows exceptional
patient comfort
Siemens Medical Solutions installs South Asia's first most compact and only
wide bore 3 Tesla Magnetom Verio Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system at
Eko X-ray and Imaging Institute, Kolkata. It is a new class of patient-friendly
MRI system, which combines 3 Tesla ultra high-field technology, 70 cm magnet
bore and TIM (Total Imaging Matrix) technology to provide superior diagnosis,
exceptional patient comfort and excellent image quality. The system's magnet
bore of 70 cm in diameter has solved the problem of scanning obese patients
and also greatly alleviates concerns of claustrophobia in many patients. The
wider space makes it possible to scan patients who could not be examined with
the MRI system in the past as well, for instance, patients suffering from kyphosis;
limited mobility or pain, paediatric patients, patients with lower back pain,
semi-recumbent cervical spine.
The 3 Tesla market is one of the fastest growing, where Magnetom Verio meets
every market demand with a single system - increasing requirements for patient
comfort, supporting high image quality and efficient workflow. At the launch,
D Ragavan, Executive Vice President, Siemens Medical Solutions stated, "Amongst
all the diagnostic technologies, MRI is the most versatile one. It can be used
to do whole body diagnostics, while at the same time, does not deliver any harmful
radiation. Siemens has introduced several innovations in the area of MRI imaging,
notable amongst them being the launch of TIM technology. Now with the introduction
of Magnetom Verio, Siemens has addressed the twin objectives of very high-end
diagnostic capabilities, while at the same time, making the technology patient
friendly."
Ragavan further added, "With its 70 cm gantry opening, Magnetom Verio is
the widest in the industry and will almost completely eliminate the feeling
of claustrophobia. We are confident that it will set a new benchmark in the
MRI field. Dr SK Sharma, Director, Eko X-ray and Imaging Institute explained,
"With the choice of several 3 Tesla MRI units available today, we at Eko
X-Ray and Imaging Institute unanimously selected Magnetom Verio. Our Institute
has the experience of 1.0 Tesla MRI since 1992 and of 1.5 Tesla since 2002.
When we initiated the selection process for 3 Tesla MRI, our aim was to give
the best possible diagnostic facility to the patients with the most advanced
and comfortable MR scanner and at the shortest possible scan time. Magnetom
Verio had all the necessary advantages over other available systems and was
the obvious choice."
