Concession for Senior Citizens

A senior citizen incurring a medical bill of two lakh at any private hospital will hereafter pay only Rs 1.6 lakh instead of the earlier Rs 1.8 lakh. It was a 'bonanza' announced by the Andhra Pradesh Private Nursing Homes Association and Indian Medical Association (IMA) for the aged in Hyderabad. Hence, senior citizens visiting the private hospitals are entitled for a 20 per cent concession on the charges. This announcement came on the verge of first anniversary celebrations of 'Aasara' project initiated by the he Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), in association with Helpage India for the senior citizens of Hyderabad. GHMC Commissioner CVSK Sarma announced that a health insurance plan will soon be chalked out for the elderly. Former Chief Secretary J Harinarayana said the project should be decentralised more by involving larger number of private participants. Additional Commissioner Vani Mohan dwelt on the progress and future plans of 'Aasara.' Building a database of senior citizens, formation of ten associations in each circle, and insurance coverage and mobile healthcare for the aged constitutes part of the proposals.
