Priority Dispatch Software at 1298 Ambulance Control Room

The 1298 ambulance service of Mumbai launched ambulance control room software

A new system launched by 1298 Ambulance Access for All (AAA) is all set to relieve tension from the minds of victim needing the medical support. AAA has launched priority dispatch software in their control room. Started with a set of 10 ambulances, the project has now touched a figure of 51.

Initially, the ambulance service was limited only in Mumbai, but now a fleet of 20 ambulances has reached Kerala. A sum of Rs 50 lakh is invested in setting up the priority dispatch software. Mumbaikars can avail rapid ambulance response and pre-hospital patient care, in case of any medical emergency by dialing 1298 with the launch of this ambulance control room software.

"The technology known as ProQA is the premier Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) software package in the world. It has the facility of collecting vital information from the caller, obtaining the patient's status, choosing an appropriate ambulance dispatch level and instructing the caller with medically-approved protocols to support the victim/patient until the dispatched ambulance arrives at the incident scene during an emergency medical situation," informs Sweta Mangal, CEO, Dial 1298 for Ambulance.

The technology set-up is certified by the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAEMD), while the control room has been equipped with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software which works on Realtime Tracking System (RTS) of ambulances using Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Reliable communication link between control room, ambulances and hospital emergency rooms are provided using wireless radio trunking, backed up with CDMA and GSM phones to ensure smooth functioning of the ambulance service.

The project is designed to work on cross subsidy model since they did not want to rely on Government funds. So, as a part of the business model, they charge a rational amount of money from the ones who wish to seek treatment from private hospitals. "Whereas we charge a minimal mount from the person who opts for Government hospital, we don't charge anything from accident victim," said Mangal.

Within a year, they are planning to launch 50 vans in each city which includes Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Besides, the ambulance is soon to venture to other metropolis like Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
