Jupiter Hospital Introduces Advanced Radiotherapy Technology
The Hospital has invested Rs 25 crore for the entire oncology
set up
Jupiter
Hospital, Thane recently launched linear accelerators enabled with Image Guided
Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for
treatment of cancer. This equipment is provided by Siemens.
The 200-bed multi speciality tertiary care hospital has invested a sum of Rs
25 crore in the entire oncology set up. "Though this is the first IGRT/IMRT
system at our hospital, it is surely not the last one. We are certain that all
the major hospitals would adopt this technology and no treatment delivery would
be possible without image guidance," stated Dr Ajay Thakker, Chairman and
CEO, Jupiter Hospital.
Research shows that oral cancer is a leading cancer and its treatment through
conventional radiotherapy leads to side effects that cause dryness of mouth.
"IGRT/IMRT technique will ensure a much controlled dose to reduce the dryness
of mouth caused by radiotherapy," shares Dr Manish Chandra, Radiation Oncologist,
Jupiter Hospital.
IGRT/IMRT technique kills the cancer cells and protect healthy tissue of a patient
with increased accuracy. Dr RL Bhalavat, Radiation Oncologist, Jupiter Hospital,
emphasised on the role of brachytherapy which is now available in Jupiter Hospital,
in organ preservation of head and neck cancers. "Brachytherapy can be used
in early cheek, tongue and lip cancers to preserve the functionality and cosmetic
result with good outcome," says Dr Bhalavat.
Jupiter Hospital plans to expand more in terms of technology and is set to join
the league of state-of-the-art medical facilities in India to offer the best
in diagnostics and treatment.
