National Conference on Healthcare Communication and Marketing

The conference aims to provide a platform for discussion regarding innovations in the healthcare communication and marketing

The recent trends in the healthcare system in India, has generated a lot of hope and optimism towards making the society health conscious. The idea of healthcare needs to be marketed even before marketing the healthcare initiatives. This calls for an immediate attention to the marketing and communication strategies involved in this endeavor. Realising the importance of communication and marketing in healthcare systems, the Center for Media and Marketing Communication Research (CMMCR) has decided to organise a conference on November 7-8, 2008.

The objectives of the conference are:

  • To provide a platform for discussion regarding innovations in the healthcare communication and marketing.
  • To bring together the academic and industry efforts in this direction for a complete understanding of issues and opportunities in the sector.
  • To find out solutions to healthcare problems in rural India.
  • To generate discussions regarding healthcare for the benefit of the general public.
  • To create awareness among the people about e-healthcare and other such initiatives.

The two day conference will hold six sessions. There will be five sessions of paper presentations and one session (last session) of panel discussion. The topic for panel discussion is Ethics in Healthcare Communication and Marketing. The paper presentations will be on the following sub-themes.

  • Trends in healthcare communication.
  • Innovations in healthcare marketing.
  • E-healthcare: Strategies and trends.
  • Role of Media in healthcare communication.
  • Importance of Communication in Community Health Services.
  • Retail opportunities in healthcare services.
  • Medical tourism.
  • Healthcare programmes on television.
  • Consumer trends in healthcare.
  • Healthcare and the legal framework.
  • Healthcare in rural India: Challenges and Opportunities.
  • Mobile Healthcare systems.
  • Changing business models in Healthcare.
  • Trends in Healthcare Insurance.

The conference will be inaugurated by the Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University. The key note address for inauguration will be by R Basil, CEO, Manipal Health Systems. The chief guest for the valedictory is S Bhaskaran, Senior Director -Philips Healthcare. Pro-vice Chancellor and other university officials will be present too. The panel discussion scheduled for last session will have senior members from Johnson and Johnson, Philips Healthcare and others.
