LycoRed - Your 'Wellness' Pill

Several studies from across the world have shown that lycopene has significantly higher anti-oxidant activity than all other carotenoids

The current mantra for living healthy is 'wellness'. If you eat healthy, maintain your body weight, remain stress free, workout regularly, you are likely to live to a ripe old age. Right? Think again!

You have to understand your body functioning before you go further. Every time you breathe, small factories in your body cells produce energy, using the food you have eaten. Nearly 95 per cent of the oxygen you breathe is used to convert the food into energy. During this process, these factories go haywire. The mitochondria inside each cell lose some charged particles - called free radicals. These free radicals combine with other molecules - this process is termed as oxidation. Look at the paradox - more free radicals mean more damage to the mitochondria and more damage to the mitochondria produces further free radicals. The havoc wreaked upon the body cells by the free radicals is stupendous, in its all-encompassing enormity.

You must not forget that free radicals cannot be wished away. They are the end products of the respiratory process happening in our body cells all day. Certain situations, however, drastically increase the production of free radicals like Exposure to pollution, inhalation of pesticides or chemicals, intake of alcohol, consumption of tobacco products, dietary intake of processed foods, and mental and physical stress.

When the extent of this damage exceeds the capacity of the natural defense mechanism available within the human body, disease manifestation sets in. Today, researchers estimate that these deadly free radicals are responsible for causing 80 to 90 per cent of the degenerative diseases and disorders afflicting the human beings.

We remember having read for years that high cholesterol levels increase the risk of heart attacks - research now blames free radicals as the real culprit.

Where we had numerous individual causes to be fathomed, now scientists have only one - free radicals. So, logically, the cure is also one - by keeping the free radicals under control.

The medical world is just opening up to the plethora of possibilities that the future may hold for us, working as we are, in the direction of conquering the enemy. Experts now believe that we are on the verge of a major breakthrough, coming from the conquest on the free radicals, which will pave the way for the prevention of practically all the killer diseases of today.

It is essentially believed that when the balance between the free radicals and the defense mechanism of the body is tilted in favour of the former, we can help the body restore the lost balance through external supplementation of antioxidants properties. More and more scientific data is now accumulating in favour of a substance called lycopene, a carotenoid found in some fruits and vegetables. Several studies from across the world have shown that lycopene has significantly higher anti-oxidant activity than all other carotenoids. Expectedly, lycopene also dominates over the other carotenoids in tissue concentrations.

Jagsonpal Pharmaceuticals Limited, in an exclusive marketing tie-up with an Israel-based company, launched their brand of lycopene - LycoRed, which has become the brand leader in its segment.

Over the last one decade, a plethora of scientific publications have affirmed the role of lycopene in retarding the genesis and / or progression of cardiovascular disorders and diabetes - all clinical trials conducting in India have been done using the proprietary formulation LycoRed.

Practicing cardiologists and diabetologists in India now regularly prescribe LycoRed as a part of 'initiative wellness' to their patients of cardiovascular diseases / diabetes.
