Moolchand Launches Centre for Interventional Radiology
Moolchand Medcity, NCR's leading healthcare services provider, launched Centre
for Interventional Radiology at its campus.
"Our team demonstrates global leadership through innovative treatments
provided uniquely at Moolchand's Centre for Interventional Radiology,"
said Dr Ashwin Garg, Consultant-Interventional Radiology, Moolchand Medcity.
Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures are an advance in
medicine that often replaces open surgical procedures. They are generally easier
for the patient because they involve no large incisions with less risk, less
painful with shorter recovery time. Screening is useful in certain high-risk
groups. This includes patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking,
high blood cholesterol and with family history of atherosclerotic problems and
circulatory problems.
Since IR does not involve large incisions, it is less invasive than other procedures.
In majority of cases, local anaesthetic is used in place of general anaesthesia
and most of the procedures are done as an out-patient and do not require hospital
admission or require only short stay. Thus, these procedures are less expensive
than surgeries or other alternatives. It helps in treating and assisting an
integral part of various clinical procedures, finding a role in vascular diseases,
oncology, stroke management, women's health, paediatrics and back pain.
According to Dr Garg, "With change in time, there is an increasing prevalence
of several diseases, with changing patterns and associated disabilities. To
beat these grim odds, patients rely on a multidisciplinary team of physicians
for their treatment. As technology advances and high-quality imaging equipment
becomes more widely available, IR is able to offer patients and physicians a
growing number of new treatment options."
