Apollo, Madurai Introduces 1.5 Tesla MRI Unit

Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai inaugurated Philips Achieva 1.5 Tesla MRI Unit at a function chaired by Thiru P Seetharaman IAS, District Collector, Madurai District in presence of Dr SM Sivakumar, Dean, Madurai Medical College and Rajaji Hospital.

This brand new Philips Achieva 1.5 Tesla unit has powerful 'field strength' which translates as faster scanning times which equals shorter examinations, increased resolution and diagnostic capabilities, ability to perform certain types of examinations which were not available till now and friendly environment .

MRI technology will provide the physicians with the ability to diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses. MRI scans can be done for herniated vertebrae disks, spinal cord injuries and pathologies, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis and brain trauma apart from MRI's for orthopaedics - knees, shoulders, ankles, and wrists. Magnetic Resonance Angiography will help evaluating narrowing, blockages and aneurysms of arteries.Apart from these, this MRI supports advanced applications like Body Diffusion (DWIBS), non-contrast perfusion (ASL), DTI and fiber tractography and Cardiac.
