Another Super Speciality Hospital in New Delhi

This 500-bed hospital focuses on oncology

Spread over an area of more than five acres, BL Kapur Memorial Hospital opened in New Delhi. It is reconstructed version of the Delhi Maternity Hospital set up way back in 1959 by Dr BL Kapur, an eminent obstetrician and gynaecologist.

The total investment made per bed is Rs 35-40 lakh. The hospital has the capacity of 500 beds. The hospital plans to offer multi-speciality tertiary care facilities in neurology, nephrology, cardiology, neonatology and so on, but main focus would be on oncology. The land was donated by Pt Jawaharlal Nehru.

The hospital has 17 Modular Operation Theatres (OTs) and over 100 critical care beds. Said SS Sodhi, CEO, BL Kapur Memorial Hospital, "The hospital has acquired Triology Tx Linear accelerator cone beam CT, making it one of the very few hospitals having this facility." The hospital claims to have many first to its credit including state-of-art equipment and infrastructure. Sodhi claims, "The 1.5 tesla volume MRI has special features like generation of 3D images with the acquisition time reduced to half. It is the first hospital in Delhi to have automated pneumatic chute system for immediate transfer of samples, medicines and documents. The hospital has a three stage air filtration process in ICUs, which is the first in the city."

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, Governor, Delhi, said, "The infrastructure available at the hospital will cater to the medical needs of the people residing not only in Delhi but in neighbouring states as well."

The hospital stands in a strong competition to the neighbouring Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, an established name in Delhi. Sodhi also said that the BL Kapur Memorial Hospital located in Ludhiana will also be revamped in another two to three years.
