Western Heart Clinic Joins Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi

Vijay Nahata inaugurates the Advanced Cardiac Centre at the hospital

Fortis Healthcare Limited recently announced the launch of advanced cardiac centre in Hiranandani Hospital Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Vijay Nahata, Commissioner, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), inaugurated the advanced cardiac centre at the hospital.

The centre would be managed by Western Heart Clinic Private Limited, a group of nine Mumbai-based cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. Amongst the invasive cardiology group will be Dr Sandip Rane, Dr Bhaskar Shah, Dr Nitin Burkule and Dr Vijay Surase who have performed more than 20,000 angiographies and over 4,000 angioplasties. The non-invasive cardiology team would be headed by Dr Nitin Burkule. The non invasive team has collectively done more than 50,000 echo cardiographies. The surgical team would include specialists like Dr Mahesh Singh, Dr Jayesh Dhareshwar and Dr Govind Kubal, who have performed more than 5,000 cardiac surgeries.

The same group of doctors is also working at Jupiter Hospital, Thane. Said Dr Sandeep Rane, "While Jupiter has other cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, the advanced cardiac centre at Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi would be managed only by Western Heart Clinic." He further added that though the thought of forming Western Heart Clinic took roots more than two years ago, it was formalised only six months back.

When asked how the team would manage to man this centre along with Jupiter and their private clinics, Dr Mahesh Singh of Western Heart Clinic, said, "At different points of the week, we would take turns in coming to the hospital. And twice a week, all of us would meet to discuss the cases." To which Dr Bhaskar Shah added that a team approach helps ensures ethical practice.

When asked about what made them team up again after the recent fracas with Asian Heart Institute (AHI), which ended with both Dr Sandeep Rane and Bhaskar Shah walking out of AHI, Dr Shah, said, "This time, all stake holders have equal say in policy decisions, unlike at AHI where the percentage of stake decided the importance of the decision."

The advanced centre will be equipped to undertake broad spectrum of cardiac services ranging from prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiac patients. Services available would include invasive and non invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery including cardio-thoracic vascular surgery, beating heart surgery, valve replacement surgery, and other complex/ high end surgeries. The centre, backed up with a dedicated OT, will be equipped with invasive and non invasive cardiac cath lab. The dedicated critical care unit will have state-of-the-art digital monitoring equipment together with ventilator support and automated drug delivery systems. The non invasive cardiac cath lab has the latest equipment capable of early detection and comprehensive cardiac work-up. Investigations like ECG, TMT, doppler studies and holter monitoring will also be available.
