SGRH to Add 150 Beds

Dr BK Rao

Delhi-based Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) will soon add 150 additional beds. A new building is constructed to increase the existing 600 beds to 750.

"The building is ready, we are waiting for Municipal Cooperation of Delhi to give us the certificate that the building is complete," says Dr BK Rao, Chairman, Board of Management, SGRH.

Explaining the shortage of beds, Dr Rao elaborates, "There is a shortage of space, and we want to extend our services. There are still patients whom we cannot accommodate. We want to expand our facilities and education. The present day facility doesn't allow that."

Due to lack of space and more patients, the emergency department will be shifted to this new building. Elaborating on the changes, Dr Rao says, "The waiting rooms will be much bigger, we will be expanding our billing and blood collection centre." There is also some good news for the doctors at SGRH as a new gym has been constructed for doctors in the new building.

The vascular unit will be converted to a centre. Paediatric emergency services will also be started. The haematology services will also be extended. The hospital will also be exploring the much growing wellness market. It will have a separate area for executive health checkups. It will be a complete area in itself. "The hospital has no rehabilitation centre as of now. The new centre will have a rehabilitation centre," shares Dr Rao.

In addition, SGRH is also working on its master plan. "We plan to add 1,000 regular beds and 200 day care beds in the next six to seven years," informs Dr Rao. He added that the hospital plans to add six lakh square feet more area in the next seven years.
