Kohinoor Hospital to be Commissioned by December 2009
The hospital is being designed to get platinum rating under
LEED certification for 'green building'

Mumbai-based Kohinoor Hospitals Private Limited is gearing
up to open by December 2009. The super-specialty 175-bed hospital will be commissioned
by December 7, 2009 with 100 beds in the first phase. The second phase with
75 beds will be operational subsequently. Located in Kurla-Vidyavihar, a central
suburb of Mumbai, the hospital is spread over an area of approximately two lakh
square feet. It will be a ground-plus-five-storey building with two basements.
Kohinoor Hospital is part of Mumbai-based Kohinoor Group, which has a significant
presence in fields as diverse as education, hospitality, real estate and power.
Said Unmesh Joshi, CMD, Kohinoor Group, "Kohinoor Hospital
will be one of its kinds 'hospital for the sick', and a recuperating centre
for people needing medical supervision and aid. Keeping in mind the growing
concern for the environment the world over, Kohinoor Hospital is being designed
to get platinum rating, the highest, under LEED certification for 'green building'
making it the first hospital/healthcare institution in the country to achieve
this prestigious rating."
He further added, "The project management team is aiming to acquire expertise
in all necessary areas such as healthcare architecture, civil engineering, biomedical
engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering and business management.
The team will work to provide support for feasibility studies and capital planning
through the development of schematics, detailed design and construction."
Shailesh Dalvie, CEO, Kohinoor Hospital said, "This 175-bed project will
be implemented within 25 months of breaking ground, and will be probably an
example of sorts in project management. In a capital-intensive business like
hospitals, this breakthrough speed of the project probably provides another
strategic edge to this business endeavour."
The hospital team is now in the process of ordering equipment and gadgets for
the hospital. The hospital will have an efficiently planned infrastructure comprising
outpatient clinics with emphasis on day-care services and lifestyle management,
specialty clinics for diabetes, obesity, ante-natal, mother and childcare, pain
management, nutrition and dietetics etc. The hospital will have state-of-the-art
diagnostics, Operation Theatres, critical care beds and a variety of comfortable
In-patient rooms. It will also provide round-the-clock emergency, radiology
and imaging, pathology, diagnostics, dialysis, pharmacy and blood bank and component
therapy. The thrust would be on cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery,
orthopaedics, neurosciences, minimally invasive surgeries, nephrology, urology,
gastroenterology, ophthalmology, advanced diagnostics and critical care. This
will be well supported with HVAC, CSSD, PACS, telemedicine, and covered under
Wi-Fi Zone.
