Mumbai-based Kohinoor Hospitals Private Limited is gearing up to open by December 2009. The super-specialty 175-bed hospital will be commissioned by December 7, 2009 with 100 beds in the first phase. The second phase with 75 beds will be operational subsequently. Located in Kurla-Vidyavihar, a central suburb of Mumbai, the hospital is spread over an area of approximately two lakh square feet. It will be a ground-plus-five-storey building with two basements. Kohinoor Hospital is part of Mumbai-based Kohinoor Group, which has a significant presence in fields as diverse as education, hospitality, real estate and power.

Said Unmesh Joshi, CMD, Kohinoor Group, "Kohinoor Hospital will be one of its kinds 'hospital for the sick', and a recuperating centre for people needing medical supervision and aid. Keeping in mind the growing concern for the environment the world over, Kohinoor Hospital is being designed to get platinum rating, the highest, under LEED certification for 'green building' making it the first hospital/healthcare institution in the country to achieve this prestigious rating."

He further added, "The project management team is aiming to acquire expertise in all necessary areas such as healthcare architecture, civil engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering and business management. The team will work to provide support for feasibility studies and capital planning through the development of schematics, detailed design and construction."

Shailesh Dalvie, CEO, Kohinoor Hospital said, "This 175-bed project will be implemented within 25 months of breaking ground, and will be probably an example of sorts in project management. In a capital-intensive business like hospitals, this breakthrough speed of the project probably provides another strategic edge to this business endeavour."

The hospital team is now in the process of ordering equipment and gadgets for the hospital. The hospital will have an efficiently planned infrastructure comprising outpatient clinics with emphasis on day-care services and lifestyle management, specialty clinics for diabetes, obesity, ante-natal, mother and childcare, pain management, nutrition and dietetics etc. The hospital will have state-of-the-art diagnostics, Operation Theatres, critical care beds and a variety of comfortable In-patient rooms. It will also provide round-the-clock emergency, radiology and imaging, pathology, diagnostics, dialysis, pharmacy and blood bank and component therapy. The thrust would be on cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, orthopaedics, neurosciences, minimally invasive surgeries, nephrology, urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, advanced diagnostics and critical care. This will be well supported with HVAC, CSSD, PACS, telemedicine, and covered under Wi-Fi Zone.
