BGS Global Hospitals Launches Basal Ganglia Society

BGS Global Hospitals, Bangalore has recently launched Basal Ganglia Society, a unique support group for patients with Parkinson's Disease and all degenerative diseases of the brain with a subsidised medication programme at the hospital premises.

Said Dr N K Venkataramana, Vice-Chairman and Chief Neurosurgeon, BGS Global Hospitals, "Patients afflicted with Parkinson's Disease are on lifelong medication. Through this novel social service initiative, BGS Global Hospitals will provide medicines at subsidized costs to them helping reduce the financial burden. Twenty five per cent concession will be given on all anti Parkinsonian drugs with the support of Sun Phramaceuticals Industries Ltd, Mumbai. To assist those who cannot come to the hospital on a regular basis, free home delivery of drugs will be arranged every month."

"Through the Basal Ganglia Society, we aim to provide comprehensive care by creating a platform for the patients, their families, caregivers etc ensuring seamless continuity of care to bring about awareness and also collectively support each other. The society would like to have many more useful activities not only for Bangalore but for the entire state," he added.

Said Radha Ramaswami, Chief Coordinator, Basal Ganglia Society, "The society will focus on a host of supportive aspects like speech therapy, physiotherapy, gait therapy, diet management, psychological counseling and rehabilitation through meetings once in three months. Lectures, group discussions and latest updates on all newer developments will form an essential part of these meetings."
