Shalby Hospitals Plans 3 More Hospitals

The hospitals are at a planning stage

Ahmedabad-based Shalby Hospitals, the 240-bed multispeciality private hospital, has chalked out plans to start three new multi-specialty hospitals—two hospitals within Ahmedabd and one in Surat. All the three hospital projects put together will be of 600 bed strength.

Talking about the selected locations for these upcoming hospitals, Dr Vikram Shah, Chairman, Shalby Hospitals, said, "Our strength is in the Western region and we have a growing clientele here. We wish to cater to our clients in the region and then look for areas outside." The hospitals are at a planning stage and construction will begin within next three to six months.

All the three hospitals will be commissioned and be operational within the next 1-1.5 year. The budget earmarked for all the three hospital projects is approximately over Rs 200 crore. The funding is mostly through internal accruals, debt and in the long run private equity, (if required).

The group plans to expand through a green field route for all the three projects. "We intend to customise structure to suit our specific requirements and match global benchmarks. We have been following the model of 'care for all' in our upcoming hospitals too we will adhere to the same and extend same medical care across the hospital floor. Although level of ancillary services shall vary depending upon the choice of ward category," said Dr Shah.

The group has estimated the need of approximately 2,000 employees for the new projects. "Presently, we have started identifying the top management and initiated recruitment for middle level managers; training for the same will also begin shortly," shared Dr Shah. Upcoming hospitals will be independent units, though they will share common support services like HR, finance and training. The Ahmedabad units will be in the vicinity of 10-20 kilometer radius.
