ClassicStar NIV Mask Series: Nasal masks, Vented and Non-vented
The ClassicStar NIV nasal masks are new additions to the existing
portfolio of
ClassicStar NIV full-face masks. Full-face masks are often the first-line strategy
in the initial management of acute respiratory failure as they cover both the
nose and the mouth, so the concerns relating to mouth breathing are kept to
a minimum. However, nasal masks are often chosen if non-invasive ventilation
has to be prolonged due to the improved comfort and reduced complications associated
with full-face masks. Nasal masks are mostly preferred for patients where mouth
breathing is not a significant problem. They may also provide valuable support
for non-invasive ventilation therapy in the home care environment. The ClassicStar
NIV nasal masks are for single-patient use. They are available in three sizes.
The non-vented mask is designed for ventilators which have
an integral safety valve (active exhaust system). The non-vented mask is suitable
for the following Dräger ventilators: Evita Series, Savina (both with NIV
Option) and Carina. The vented mask includes an exhalation port to provide adequate
flow to wash out exhaled CO2 and is suitable for ventilators with continuous
positive airway pressure without active exhalation system.

The ClassicStar NIV nasal mask has an air-filled mask cushion
which can be adjusted individually to the patient's face. The mask cushion can
be inflated or deflated by means of the Dräger pump ball. Due to its adaptability,
the ClassicStar NIV nasal mask provides increased comfort and effective seal.
The forehead support and forehead pad are adjustable to match the patient's
forehead curve and thus help maximising patient comfort and mask seal. The four-point
headgear provides a stable and secure fixation reducing mask movement or displacement.
The ClassicStar mask swivel is moveable through 360°. In addition, the swivel
can be moved vertically providing more flexibility.
The Dräger Sizing Gauge helps you to choose the right mask size - there
is no need to open the mask package. Finding the right mask size takes only
two steps: First, the length of the patient's nose should be measured by holding
the sizing gauge against the side of the patient's nose. Second, by simply turning
the sizing gauge clockwise and holding it against the bottom of the patient's
nose.
The colours follow the well-known traffic light principle: red for small, yellow
for medium, and green for large sizes. Depending on which color the length and
width of the patient's nose match, you can pick a small, medium or large nasal
mask. The masks are packaged individually, fully assembled, and ready to be
used.
Individual Adaptation (Formability) Of Classicstar NIV
Masks, Vented and Non-Vented
The mask can be adjusted to the patient's face by increasing or decreasing the
amount of air in the mask cushion. After adjusting, the mask stays in position.
