Any subsidy taken from the Government and what is the arrangement with the Government against that: According to Lalith Sayani, CEO, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Jaipur, "The Government of Rajasthan has provided the land at subsidised rates as an incentive towards commitment to delivery of affordable healthcare."

Total square feet area of the hospital: 18,500 square metres.

Why investing in Jaipur: The hospital is part of the group's plans of creating large health city in every state capital. Said Dr Devi Shetty, CMD, Narayana Health City, "We aim to reproduce the model of Narayana Health City in Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Raipur, Jamshedpur, Bhopal and Delhi." Each of these health cities will have a 1,000-bed heart hospital and another 3,000-4,000 beds for other specialties like cancer, women and children, neurology etc. These facilities are primarily developed for the working class and poor people of the region who are otherwise availing medical facilities in over-crowded Government hospitals. Our experience at Narayana Health City at Bangaluru convinced us that a complex heart surgery can be done at a low cost and we can still remain financially viable," added Dr Shetty. "Growing demand for quality and affordable healthcare and with the Government's focus on financing healthcare delivery model for the masses and also, the fact that there is no hospital of this scale in Jaipur, we wanted to expand in Northern India," adds Sayani. The group has taken another 35-acre plot on the Ajmer Road to build a medical college.

To make the dream a reality we commit ourselves to being a tertiary care referral centre for complex medical and surgical problems, developing a health city model, to be replicated nationally and internationally and excelling as an education, training and research centre in medical, paramedical and allied specialties," says Sayani.

About technology that is latest in the area: Telemedicine.

Environment-friendly measures: "Care has been taken at the architectural phases by using latest technology and environmental friendly designs to ensure to minimise the consumption of resources for running the hospital," says Sayani.

Number of clinicians and non-clinicians to be hired: For 500 beds, the total HR strength is 1,500, consisting of 100 doctors, 1,200 nurses / paramedical staff and 200 administrative staff.

Ways to market it: "In line with the vision of Narayana Hrudayalaya to reach out the masses, marketing efforts will be focused on community outreach programmes, rural health initiatives, involvement of primary healthcare centres, telemedicine setup and partnering with the Government for micro health insurance scheme," says Sayani.

Future plans of the hospital: Phase two of the project would make it 1,000 beds at a cost of Rs 250 crore.
