BGS Global Launches Centre for Liver Transplantation
The transplantation centre boasts of state-of-the-art infrastructure,
dedicated operation theatres and liver intensive care unit and liver dialysis
unit

Liver Intensive Care Unit at BGS Global Hospitals

BGS Global Hospitals, Bangaluru launched their centre for
liver and pancreatic disorders and multi-organ transplantation. The Global Hospitals
Group also announced the largest comprehensive liver transplantation programme
for those suffering from end-stage liver disease. The centre was inaugurated
by Minister for Medical Education, Dr Ramachandra Gowda.
Said Dr K Ravindranath, Chairman and Managing Director, Global Hospitals Group,

is one of the largest in the country equipped with cell savers and ventilators.
We are committed to improve and help in the growth of cadaver transplants in
the state and we will coordinate with various NGO's and Government organisations
to promote this."
With the launch of the liver transplant unit, BGS Global now offers cadaver
and living donor transplants for children and adults, split liver transplantation
and auxiliary liver transplantation. The unit is headed by liver transplant
surgeon, Dr Mohamed Rela, who during his 20-year-career has performed more than
1,300 liver transplants. To his credit goes successful liver transplantation
in a five-day-old baby, which has been entered in the Guinness Book of World
Records.
"We have the distinction of having undertaken the largest number of cadaver
liver transplants in the country. We have a team of 10 transplant surgeons in
Bangaluru/Hyderabad/Chennai, which is the largest team in the country supported
by several hepatologists, critical care specialists and host of support specialties,"
added Dr Ravindranath Global Hospitals in Hyderabad and Chennai have performed
nearly 100 successful liver transplants. The group hospitals have been getting
patients from countries like Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Sri
Lanka and the US.
