Hinduja Hospital Conducts Live Demo of Latest Spine Surgery

Mumbai-based Hinduja Hospital recently performed live demo of latest spine surgery technique — cervical disc replacement for motion preservation. International authority in spine surgery Dr Paul Thng from Singapore was invited to Hinduja Hospital to perform the successful surgery and share the latest developments on a global level. Cervical disc replacement is a new surgery for motion preservation as against the traditional way of treating the same defect.

Said Dr Paul Thng, Senior Consultant, Department of Orthopedics, Changi General Hospital, Singapore, "Earlier the treatment available for this condition was Anterior Cervical Discectomy and fusion (fusion surgery). However, this treatment arrests motion. I am glad that Hinduja Hospital has adopted the latest technology and technique in this field of surgery."

Said Dr Abhay Nene, Consultant Orthopedics, Hinduja Hospital, "We at Hinduja Hospital started implementing this new technique of spine surgery only few months back. This is the latest technique and helps preserve motion giving the patient a normal life post surgery. The surgery was successful and hopefully the patient will resume her normal very soon."

The patient was admitted to the hospital two days in advance to make sure that she is in perfect condition to undergo the surgery. "Though she was suffering from the past three to four years, her condition had worsened in the past three months. With the success of the surgery, she will be relieved of all the discomfort and the application of the latest technique will help her regain her normal life with natural movement soon," added Dr Nene.
