Department of Interventional Neurology Launched at Max Healthcare
Max Healthcare has inaugurated the 'Department of Interventional
Neurology' at Max Hospital, Saket. The department has been launched with an
investment of Rs 5 crore, and will have a core team of Indias best doctors
using the most advanced neuro-interventional techniques. The facility will have
a capacity of 20 beds, including a nine-bed intensive care unit. The department
is equipped with the revolutionary neuro-cathlab with Dyna CT and 3 DRA technology.
As India's first specialised interventional neurology department,
the facility will be headed by Dr Shakir Husain, who claims to be the first
neurologist in India to be trained in neuro-intervention techniques. Said Dr
Husain, Director, Interventional Neurology at Max Healthcare, "Interventional
neurology is still in a nascent stage, but has many merits for the patient.
Striving towards perfection, we aim to make procedures simpler and safer to
crack complicated cases. The way treatment has evolved in the last decade and
a half, it has further paved a lot of hope for patients today. The survival
rate has improved significantly."
There will be a structured one-year fellowship training programme
in neuro-intervention for neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuro-radiologists
and two 18-month training programmes, specially designed for paramedical staff,
training them in dedicated neuro-cathlab work and neuro-cathlab nursing respectively.
Said Prof Dr Valavanis Director, Institute of Neuroradiology,
University Hospital, Zurich, "With advances in the neuro-scientific knowledge,
the basis and the basic understanding of the working and functions of the brain
through the technique of neuro-imaging and neuro-intervention open an altogether
new level to the genre of neurology, which would further be developed with the
opening of the interventional neurology department at Max Hospital."
