TELERADIOLOGY - A boon to the Diagnostic services Business

It's 4:00 A.M. in the little town of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh when Dr. Rishi Dey is woken up by a call from office, hurriedly he rushes to his laptop equipped with State of the art WAN modem. There has been a road accident in Lusaka, Zambia & the Neuro Surgeon needs an urgent interpretation of the CT-Head they have performed to help in deciding the further course of action.

This is a normal scenario at Progressive Radiology Solutions(PRS) a sister concern of the BSR Healthcare Group. The company consists of a team of 15 Specialist Radiologists and many dedicated trained teleradiology professionals who work 24x7x365 to provide interpretation for all radiology modalities like X-ray, USG, CT-Scan, MRI, Mammography, PET-CT etc. PRS is equipped with the latest GE RA-600 PACS coupled with 5 Mega Pixels BARCO monitors both of which are FDA approved and HIPAA/HL7 compliant.

The high demand for radiology services in places like USA, UK &Singapore is not fulfilled by available professionals. In USA the number of scans has been increased and there is a persistent shortage of Radiologist. In UK a Radiologist takes as long as 21 days to submit a MRI report. Lack of availability of reports causes problem to the clinicians at emergencies and at night hours.

In country like India there is so much of rural population and paucity of Doctors to reserve them because of poor working conditions. Tele radiology can be an answer to many problem related to health care services in villages.

We follow all standards laid down by American College of Radiology (ACR) and we have simplified the process further so that the client sending us images needs nothing beyond a computer and internet connection, informs Dr. Rohitash Khanduja - Managing Director of PRS . "Just 15 years ago a person in Chhattisgarh had to travel all the way to Mumbai or Chennai to get himself a CT-Scan and today we are sitting here interpreting cases from all over India and abroad this is nothing short of a revolution. BSR has been a pioneer in bringing quality healthcare to Central India and this revolution has been spearheaded by my father Dr. M.K.Khanduja" he adds proudly. PRS was established with an aim to provide quality interpretation of radiology modalities to patients and hospitals specially in tier 2 and tier 3 cities . The cost of running a diagnostic center is much lower when the business owner decides to rely on teleradiology instead of employing somebody full time. This is an ideal situation for smaller towns and cities. The diagnostic center /hospital has to pay only for the number of cases reported instead of paying hefty retainer ship amounts. "PRS has helped our hospital's radiology services to run in a cost effective and professional manner. The Radiologists are very competent and helpful, they are also readily available to talk to the consulting physicians whenever required" says Dr.B.K.Modi Medical Superintendent of Hanumant Hospital, Bhavnagar(Gujarat)

PRS has also ventured into management and turnkey contracts for diagnostic centers. This wing headed is primarily by Mrs. Kopal Khanduja armed with a Post Graduate(MS) degree from Stony Brook University - New York. She has immense knowledge of Biomedical and Computer Technology. "BSR Healthcare has a rich 15 year experience in professionally and profitably running a chain of multi location diagnostic centers. We combine that experience with cutting edge LIS and HIS solutions to add value to any partner project" says Kopal along with management contracts PRS also undertakes the responsibility of interpreting the radiological images and reporting of pathology through its own labs. This drastically reduces the cost involved in setting up and running of the center thereby increasing profits

As a part of the corporate social responsibility PRS is now offering to interpret any CT-Scan investigations done in the event of emergency (accident, trauma etc) in any center across India free of cost. I really want to see government and charitable hospitals using this facility where very often during an emergency there is a shortage of Radiologists" says Dr. Rohitash. The center should contact us beforehand on the configuration required at the client end to enable you to send us images.
