MIMS Bags PCB's 'Excellence Award 2010'
MIMS Hospital, Kozikhode has bagged the Excellence Award from Pollution Control
Board (PCB), Kerala for the best pollution control activities in healthcare
sector. It is the first time a hospital is getting this award among the hospitals
in the state.
MIMS had won the first prize for pollution control in 2001,
2007 and 2008. MIMS received the award in the category of hospitals with more
than 200 beds. MIMS Hospital, Kottakkal also received the second prize for implementing
good measures of pollutioncontrol in the hospital at the first year of starting
services.
MIMS has set up its own sewage treatment plant and bio gas plant. The hospital
introduced a very unique method for garbage disposal and the waste management
team collecting biological contents and non-biological contents in different
containers from its initial stage. MIMS has reduced the 'bio oxygen demand'
which is less than the level by the instructions of PCB.
The hospital has also introduced Electronic Medical Record system which has
reduced the usage of paper by 80 per cent. Use of CFL lamps and solar energy
to reduce energy consumption, activities to protect environment, rain harvesting
system, quality measures taken for the well being of patients as well as the
staff in the hospital and also for the public and charitable activities were
also considered as the merit for the Excellent Award.
"We had taken multiple initiatives for pollution control, like the projects
in healthcare from the beginning of our services," said Dr Abdulla Cherayakkat,
Managing Director, MIMS. These measures against the pollution will be a part
of all our future activities, he added. Dr Abdulla Cherayakkatt has received
the award from PK reemathi Teacher, Health Minister, Kerala at a function held
in Thrissur.
