Medtronic Inc Introduces New Therapies & Devices in India
Latest innovations for heart failure management now available

Medtronic, Inc recently launched a series of technologically
advanced therapies for the treatment of heart failure by the introduction of
Consulta cardiac resynchronisation therapy-pacemaker (CRT-P) and Protecta for
treatment of fast paced heart rate conditions while Advisa MRI for treating
slower heart rate conditions in India.
Shamik Dasgupta, Director CRDM, India Medtronic Pvt. Ltd, stated, "With
these three new great pacing devices, we will now be providing life-saving technology
for treating slow or fast heart rhythm and heart failure conditions that provides
patients a stress-free and active lifestyle. The devices are designed to control
the severe heart condition and it can be brought under control, ensuring that
the patients will receive life-saving therapy only when required. Additionally,
these devices make it easier for the surgeons to optimise the therapy based
on the patients' needs, and helps deliver the best clinical outcomes possible."
Fifty such implants have been done in India, so far.
All Protecta XT devices have OptiVol Fluid Status Monitoring,
a Medtronic-exclusive feature that measures changes in fluid build-up in heart
failure patients to predict worsening heart failure. "OptiVol 2.0, new
on Protecta XT devices, improves the accuracy in predicting when medical attention
is needed. Medtronic implantable defibrillators have Conexus Wireless Telemetry
that allows patients to transmit device data to a physician's clinic from virtually
anywhere via the industry's largest remote monitoring system, the Medtronic
CareLink Network," Dasgupta added.
Medtronic's most advanced pacemaker provides patients with
innovative exclusive technology, such as MVP (Managed Ventricular Pacing), which
is proven to reduce unnecessary ventricular pacing by 99 percent, and complete
automaticity, including Ventricular and Atrial Capture Management (VCM and ACM)
and automatic sensing. The Advisa MRI device includes sophisticated therapies
such as Anti-Tachycardia Pacing (ATP) and diagnostics such as the Cardiac Compass
Report and tachyarrhythmia management tools that assist in the early detection
and termination of atrial fibrillation (AF).
The new Consulta CRT-P is the world's first cardiac resynchronisation therapy-pacemaker
with subcutaneous electrocardiogram (ECG), which together with the Medtronic
CareLink Network device data monitoring system, offers the possibility of complete
remote follow-up. It is also equipped with Medtronic's exclusive OptiVol Fluid
Status Monitoring to predict worsening heart failure; programming options to
avoid phrenic nerve stimulation, helping to prevent the need for more invasive
surgical approaches; and features complete capture management that adjusts to
patient needs automatically and can positively impact device longevity and eliminate
in-office testing.
