Global Hearing Health Giant Establishes Office in India
Cochlear will now be fully operational in India with offices
in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangaluru
The world leader in hearing technology for deaf, Cochlear Limited, recently
announced the establishment of its India operations with the formation of its
100 per cent owned subsidiary, Cochlear Medical Devices India Private Limited.
Headquartered in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex, Cochlear will now be fully operational
in India with offices in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangaluru to enhance service to customers
and support its business growth in India.
Speaking at the launch, Mark Salmon, Asia Pacific President, Cochlear Limited
said that with more than 50,000 babies born every year in India with profound
hearing loss, Cochlear would engage with the country's leading medical opinion
leaders to address the growing number of deaf babies not being identified and
treated.
"Every month of untreated severe hearing loss can have
a severe and lasting impact upon a child's life. There is an established relationship
between identification and appropriate intervention at a very young age and
the child's ability to develop language. With early intervention deaf children
can acquire language and have an increased likelihood of attending mainstream
schooling; higher reading level and social and emotional development like a
hearing child," he said.
"Cochlear is motivated to work closely with institutions,
surgeons, audiologists, habilitationists, support groups and the Government
for an early detection and screening programme for a significant improved quality
of life for hearing impaired children," he added.
Cochlear has played a key role in developing the infrastructure
to support the development of the cochlear implant programme in India since
the company entered the Indian market in 1995. To further suppor t this growing
market, Cochlear is now establishing a direct business presence and has employed
over 30 experienced professionals. The company's focus in India will be to create
awareness about cochlear and bone conduction implant systems, the benefits and
post implantation therapy. With more than 200,000 recipients to its credit in
120 countries, the company now brings a ray of hope for deaf children and adults.
