Accuvein AV-300 Vein Viewer, a Revolutionary Product Introduced First Time in India
Accuvein is an essential tool for every phlebotomist such
as a stethoscope is for a physician
This
is the first portable, non-contact, FDA Approved, vein illumination device,
which is a patent and proprietary product of Accuvein LLC. The product has been
awarded the 'Best Medical Design Excellence Award' and has also been named as
the best new product for Pediatricians by Contemporary Pediatrics Magazine.
How it Works
Hemoglobin in the blood absorbs infrared light. When the
device is held just about seven inches above the skin, the vasculature shows
up clearly on the skin surface, aiding in vein location for blood draws and
IV-start ups.
AV-300 has two lasers: one detects de-oxygenated haemoglobin (785nm infrared
laser). A special infrared camera captures the information and sends it to a
processor that drives another laser (642nm visible light red laser) and projects
the detected vein pattern on the skin in real time.
Certain Facts on IV-Start Ups
Every patient walking into the hospital is a potentially difficult patient for
an IV-start up.
- First attempt failure rate in IV-start up
Children - 47 per cent
Adults - 28 per cent
- 27 per cent patients may require three or more attempts.
- 23-28 per cent patients experience painful extravasations
during hospital stay.
The product has vast applications and is an especially useful
tool for phlebotomists in laboratories for sample collections; in blood banks
for blood collection for selecting a good vein and for reducing rejection rates
due to difficult veins; and for performing venipuncture in critical care units;
ICU's; emergencies; paediatrics; geriatrics; dialysis units; neonatal units;
and in obese and dark skinned individuals.
Value Proposition of Accuvein AV-300
- Increased first attempt venipuncture success rates.
- Increased patient satisfaction.
- Decreased unnecessary PICC lines.
- Decreased unnecessary costs of (butterfly needles;
cannulas and IV kits).
- Decreased catheter related blood stream infection
rates.
