Clairvoyance 2010 at TISS to be Held in December

Clairvoyance, the signature annual event held at TISS, has spread its wings this year to include the entire South Asian subcontinent

Just like other sectors, healthcare has undergone enormous changes in the last one decade. It has witnessed the dawn of new concepts and the decline of old theories. It faced the heat of numerous challenges and was blessed with innovations from unlikely sources. These transitions shall pave the way for developments of the coming decade.

The students of the School of Health System Studies at TISS feel that concurrent developments during the past 10 years should be explored further in order to fathom the trends of the future. They have thus proposed Clairvoyance 2010 to be held on 11th and 12th December, 2010 as a platform for hosting a 'Dialogue on a Decade of Health'. Clairvoyance, the signature annual event held at the Convention Centre, TISS Campus, Mumbai has spread its wings this year to include the entire South Asian subcontinent.

South Asia is a unique territory. The region is divided politically but the demographic and epidemiological profiles of countries within are similar. Most South Asian countries continue to perform poorly on most social indicators, something that is reflected in their human development indices. With the exception of Sri Lanka, these countries' health sectors have tended to evolve in line with the broader dynamics of 'free' market forces again leading to similar achievements and failures. Improving the state of health in the region requires a creative and more far-reaching approach to how the health and well-being of the region's people can be improved.

TISS always promotes dialogue across disciplines, regions and ideologies. The discussions about dominant issues in healthcare of this region will provide positive outcomes for all the stakeholders.

Various sub themes to be discussed are:

  • Corporatization: From hospital to Hospital Inc.
  • Quality in Hospitals: Accreditation and beyond.
  • Competition Management in South Asian countries.
  • Multinational Hospital Groups.
  • Millennium Development Goals- Lessons learnt and road-map for the future.
  • Indigenous Healthcare Delivery Models: NRHM.
  • Innovative Healthcare financing models in South Asia.
  • Health Policy Research in South Asia: Feasibility and sustainability.
  • Disease burden of the big three – Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV across South Asian countries- Problem and Solutions.
  • Health Inequity in South Asia: Role of Gender.
