A Timely Article

'Defining the Competency Levels of Medical Professionals ' article in Express Healthcare, December 2011 is very timely. The WHO- Alliance for Surgical and Anesthesia Presence (ASAP) is battling with the issues of supporting surgeries in primary care in rural areas across the globe. They are looking for ways to empower primary care physicians through “Academic Clinical Microsystems” as a solutions where a team of doctors and nurses can agree or disagree on a intervention with the safety of the patient being the sole concern. A patient is provided the best treatment when the physician allows him to look at all the options and make selections that would be best under the given circumstances. The Indian doctors may adopt this system to make make appropriate decisions in resource constrained situations.
