A Growth Story

It would be no exaggeration to say that the Indian critical care industry has exploded in the last five years. Technology, training and a team approach have powered the growth story. From times where ICU was manned by admitting doctors with some support from staff, we have come a long way in providing comprehensive critical care. Today, we have a team of professionally-trained intensivists available round the clock in various specialised ICUs, who instead of depending on various reports to assess the patient's condition have the multi parameter patient monitors to guide them. The growth of the segment is also reflected in the fact that many ICUs are contributing to 30-50 per cent of profit earnings of tertiary hospitals and that good ICU set-ups are flourishing even in tier II cities.

So, it was time that we tracked the growth of the segment, analysed the reasons for its fast development, the inevitable challenges that it faces and discussed the latest technological advancements. That's exactly what we attempted to do in 'Criticare Frontiers.'

The articles 'From Good to Better' and 'Critically Speaking' have analysed the business of critical care, the merits and demerits of a slew of business models in ICUs and the challenges that threaten its growth. So, if you want to check the business viability of your ICU and learn ways to consolidate your current market position, you have to look no further than our magazine.

If education and training have taken critical care forward by leaps and bounds, then the credit for that to a large extent goes to the Indian Society for Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM). We thus have Dr J Divatia, President, ISCCM take us through the development of the society in a free-wheeling interview.

You would have a healthy dose on the latest technology and technique by leading industry experts, who have shared their knowledge and experience in using various hi-end technology and evidence-based techniques. We have also provided interviews of various companies catering to critical care products so as to enhance your knowledge of what to expect from the industry.

Hope you enjoy reading the issue.
