Continuous Noninvasive Arterial Pressure monitoring
One of the major trends in healthcare today is lesser invasive
care. Another trend is toward continuous, rather than intermittent monitoring.
If we take basic parameter monitoring, all are noninvasive
and continuous except for blood pressure monitoring. If one wants to measure
continuous BP, then going for invasive technique is mandatory which is specialised
procedure and involves pain, expertise as well as expense.
Draeger's Infinity® CNAPtm SmartPod® provides continuous, beat-to-beat,
noninvasive monitoring of blood pressure with an arterial waveform display.
Clinicians have to simply plug the Infinity® CNAPtm SmartPod® into Draeger
monitor, place a dual-finger cuff on the patient, and immediately have blood
pressure readings in real-time.
When used in conjunction with other continuous, noninvasive
monitoring technologies such as ECG, Spo2 or EtCo2, the Infinity® CNAPtm
SmartPod® offers a continuous and truly comprehensive cardiovascular monitoring
concept - without the risk of invasive methods such as arterial lines.

Basic Principle
- Measurement of suitable artery and keeping the blood
volume constant by corresponding pressure from outside ('vascular unloading'
or 'volume clamp' method).
- Continuously changing outside pressure corresponds
to intra-arterial pressure.
Measurement
Infrared light is sent through the finger and is measured
on the opposite side (Plethysmography). Light is absorbed by the pulsating blood
flow. A dynamic counter pressure is applied in the Infinity®
CNAPtm SmartPod® sensor cuff that follows the blood flow
indicated by the plethysmography signal.
Benefits
- Continuous (beat-to-beat) monitoring.
- Noninvasive - helps minimising risk of infection.
- Noninvasive - a nurse can apply with minimal training
effort.
- Provides continuous BP readings, unlike intermittent
NIBP arm cuff values- improving decision making.
- Provides 'bridge' technology - Infinity® CNAPtm
SmartPod® bridges the gap between NIBP and arterial line with minimal
training effort.
- Provides high fidelity pressure waveform that are
similar as the arterial line which allows for morphology interpretation of
pressure waveform.
- Less costs and maintenance effort than arterial line.
- Makes it easy to determine sensor cuff size - Sensor
cuff color coordinate with color of NBP arm cuff.
- Complies with installed base monitors (Infinity®
Delta, Infinity® Delta XL, Infinity® Kappa) - not a standalone device.
