A Rapidly Growing Field

The Indian health imaging market, estimated roughly to be at $ 350 million, is slated to double by 2010. X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI would drive this domain- collectively accounting for 68.6 per cent of the health imaging market. Even the slump in the economy has failed to impact the radiology market in a major way.

In this climate of boom, Express Healthcare takes you through various facets in the field of radiology- be it the business aspect, latest advancements or future technologies.

The boom has engendered a slew of radiology centres (standalone or chain), the dynamics of whose funding and functioning are quite different when pitted against radiology departments of hospitals. The viability and profitability of these two business models have been analysed in our cover story 'Spinning the Money.'

However, the major pitfall of this boom is an alarming rise in the number of medico-legal cases in radiology. In 'Legal Matters,' we have addressed your cause for concern by suggesting ways to tide over those baffling medico-legal problems and even cited cases for better understanding of legalese.

Since the days of X-Ray days, various technologies have exploded the radiology market. Major evolution has been noticed in the domain of CT, MRI and ultrasound, while digital radiography and teleradiology have given a whole new meaning to diagnosis. Covering a wide range of topics, our panel of experts have penned views, thoughts and experiences about advancements in these segments and their effectiveness.

To help you choose the equipment that suits your needs, 'Techscan' section offers you critical analysis of various products by various radiologists. Assessing your need to know about upcoming products and technologies, 'One-on-One' Section has leading imaging companies sharing their future plans.

This is our first special issue on the evolving imaging market in India. To keep a track on the latest products, trends and views in imaging, keep reading our 'In Imaging' magazine.
