The Power of PACS
We
are back with the third edition of 'In Imaging'- the most trusted industry guide
to the latest developments in radiology as is IRIA, the most valued conference
for radiologists. Rightly so, we have selected Picture Archiving and Communications
Systems (PACS) as our cover story.
While the advent of X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT, digital imaging opened new vistas
in the field of radiology, it would be no exaggeration to say that PACS added
a whole new dimension to this field. Prior to PACS, digital imaging studies
had to archived and viewed on a radiographic film. Transfer of image was also
limited to the digitisation of filmed images and their transfer by proprietary
systems.
To stop loss of data due to this kind of conversion to and from analog film
and the inbuilt limitations of film-display and storage resulted, PACS was born.
However, as the article point out, PACS has moved beyond image archiving. The
newest PACS are providing radiologists with more précised integrated
enterprise workflow, automatic image processing and the capability to impeccably
share images with anyone, anywhere in the world.
The magazine also sheds ample light on other important diagnostic tools like
CT, MR, DR and ultrasound- all penned by experts in radiology. We also have
interviews of leading companies and have profiled some latest products. Hope
you find this issue informative.
