Wockhardt Foundation installs bio-toilets in Mumbai

Wockhardt Foundation has installed ‘bio-toilets’ in Bharat Nagar in Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. This initiative is an endeavour to provide environment friendly sanitation to the poor and needy.

The bio-toilets were launched by Nafisa Khorakiwala, Chairperson, Wockhardt Foundation and Ajay Gupta, District Governor, Rotary club in the presence of Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Trustee & CEO, Wockhardt Foundation and Shaikh Ilyas Bashir, Councilor, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

Bio-toilet is a waste management solution, which seeks to alleviate the need for expensive sewage treatment and waste management. Reportedly, this new initiative from Wockhardt Foundation is 100 per cent eco-friendly and cost effective as it decomposes the solid waste into water and bio-gas and it only requires one-time installation.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Gupta, District Governor, Rotary Club said, “This new initiative will be extremely effective in places facing a space crunch, and where there is inadequate provision for drainage. Sanitation in Mumbai can be improved with similar steps.”

Speaking about the installation in Mumbai, Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Trustee & CEO, Wockhardt Foundation said, “Bio-toilet will play a critical role in preventable healthcare. Along with providing good waste management solution, its cost effectiveness compared to other available waste disposal systems is another benefit. Moving forward, we plan to install Bio-Toilets in several places of Mumbai including households, construction sites, airports, village central points, educational institutions, pilgrimage sites, and slums.”

At a very nominal cost Wockhardt Foundation aims to offer a complete solid waste management solution for six to seven users in a family, which very effectively addresses each of environmental issues.
