AIIMS Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sevadaan Aarogya Foundation (SAF) for the establishment of an 800-bed Vishram Gruh within the institute campus to provide accommodation for relatives and attendants of patients undergoing treatment.
According to AIIMS Nagpur, the Vishram Gruh will provide accommodation, hygienic meals and essential amenities at nominal charges for families travelling from Maharashtra and neighbouring states for treatment at the institute.
The institute stated that the facility is intended to reduce the financial and logistical burden on families and support patients and caregivers by providing accommodation within the campus during the course of treatment.
AIIMS Nagpur said the construction of the Vishram Gruh is expected to begin after completion of the remaining statutory and administrative formalities.
In another development, the Government of India has designated AIIMS Nagpur as a Centre for Secondary Medical Management of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) emergencies.
According to the institute, the designation recognises its capabilities in disaster preparedness, emergency response and the management of public health emergencies, further strengthening its role in the healthcare and emergency response framework.
AIIMS Nagpur has also signed an MoU with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the establishment of a Biosafety Level-III (BSL-III) Laboratory.
The institute stated that the BSL-III laboratory will support diagnostic investigations, surveillance and research related to high-risk infectious diseases. It added that the facility is expected to strengthen preparedness for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and enhance regional and national public health response capabilities.
According to AIIMS Nagpur, the establishment of the 800-bed Vishram Gruh, the proposed BSL-III laboratory and its designation as a CBRNE Secondary Medical Management Centre reflect the institute’s focus on patient care, diagnostic and research infrastructure, and health security.
