Boston Scientific’s Navigation Express completes six-month tour of 12 states and 52 cities

Physicians will be introduced to the latest in medical devices

The Boston Scientific ‘Navigation Express,’ a mobile van showcasing ground-breaking medical innovations, has concluded a tour of 130 hospitals in 52 cities in India to demonstrate the latest medical technologies to nearly 2690 medical professionals. The display, housed inside a 20 foot long vehicle, focuses on less-invasive treatments for disorders of the cardiac and peripheral vasculature and gastrointestinal tract, as well as arrhythmias.

The Navigation Express began its tour of India immediately following the dedication of the company’s new 100,000 sq ft integrated facility in Gurugram on July 15. It was flagged off by Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Capt Abhimanyu, Finance Minister, Government of Haryana. The vehicle logged more than 14,834 kms kilometres during the tour through 12 states in the past 21 weeks.

The Navigation Express was a unique initiative by the global medical technology leader to expose healthcare institutions throughout India to advances in medical devices and equipment across a range of medical specialities via demo products, models and interactive displays.

While the visits enabled many healthcare providers to learn about Boston Scientific devices first-hand for the first time, the company also plans to use feedback from the visits to create customised training and outreach programmes. This information will provide insights into the physician training needs in these markets and enable us to customize the EDUCARE offerings. EDUCARE is Boston Scientific’s comprehensive suite of education programs that support healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient care worldwide.

“We are delighted with the successful completion of the journey of the Navigation Express,” said Prabal Chakraborty, VP and MD, Boston Scientific India. “This initiative enabled us to bring the latest medical innovations to doctors and other healthcare providers across India, and enabled healthcare providers to engage with our subject matter experts directly as they expanded their knowledge of our latest solutions for unmet clinical needs.”

Boston Scientific has more than 340 employees in India and a portfolio of over 300 medical devices across interventional cardiology, endoscopy, urology and pelvic health, neuro-modulation, rhythm management, interventional oncology and peripheral interventions.

The new Gurugram facility, as well as the Navigation Express, marks a strategic investment by Boston Scientific to create market-appropriate products based on unmet clinical needs in emerging markets, and will also serve as a global product engineering centre.
