Chellaram Diabetes Institute organises 2nd International Diabetes Summit

The summit aims to provide comprehensive knowledge about diabetes and its complications to health care practitioners of India

Chellaram Diabetes Institute has organised its 2nd International Diabetes Summit – 2018. The summit recognises the need to address issues related to diabetes and its complications and seeks to empower healthcare professionals to win this uphill battle to defeat diabetes.

Dr Andrew JM Boulton President – Elect, International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Dr Desmond Schatz, Former American Diabetes Association President will grace the inaugural function. Nearly 1500 delegates are expected to attend this conference. Renowned scientific experts in the field of Diabetes including Clinicians and Researchers from Karolinska Institute and University of Gothenburg in Sweden, Mayo Clinic and University of Florida in the US, University of London and University of Manchester in UK and University of Turin in Italy and 50 faculty members from India are speaking at the summit. More than 50 young researchers will be presenting posters and free papers at the conference and the Institute has instituted the Chellaram Foundation Diabetes Research Award.

The summit would have pre-conference symposium, held in collaboration with faculty from Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship from IIM Ahmedabad, which will present six new technology-based Innovations in diabetes care whose focus will be on remote disease monitoring, Artificial Intelligence –based retinopathy diagnostics and behavioural change tools, comprehensive diabetic foot detection devices and diabetes-focussed electronic medical record systems.

The summit includes a discussion on the Diabetes Reversal through Exercise, Education and Meal Management (DREEMM) programme whose main aim is to reverse Diabetes by normalising blood glucose levels through low calorie diets and exercise.

The summit will also cover discussions and talks on new age treatments, weight loss pills, continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps, bariatric surgery, once-a-week injections, role of artificial intelligence in diabetes management, remote monitoring of diabetes, new tools to manage foot infections, etc.
