e-Learning course on healthcare communication launched at CAHOCON 2015

The course aims to directly impact patient safety and quality in healthcare by improving communication in the healthcare setting

An e-learning course on healthcare communication, developed by Wolters Kluwer, Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO) and the Bangalore Baptist Hospital, was released at CAHOCON 2015 in New Delhi. It was released by Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman and Founder, Narayana Health in the presence of luminaries in the healthcare sector such as Dr Girdhar Gyani, Director-General AHPI and Dr Somil Nagpal of the World Bank.

Dr Alexander Thomas (President, CAHO and former Director-CEO of the Bangalore Baptist Hospital) spoke on the development of the e-learning course from the highly successful book Communicate. Care. Cure: A Guide to Healthcare Communication and the associated national training workshops, which have been endorsed by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Organisations (NABH), the National Board of Examinations (NBE), the Indian Nursing Council, the Association for Healthcare Providers (AHPI), and the Government of Karnataka, among others. CAHO is working to make this course count towards credit points required for re-licensing by the medical, nursing and allied health councils.

The course aims to directly impact patient safety and quality in healthcare by improving communication in the healthcare setting. It is tailored to meet the needs of all personnel in the healthcare sector, and not just medical professionals. It was developed by industry experts and offers practical solutions to communication problems faced by healthcare personnel, also equipping them with tools and strategies on how to communicate effectively in the healthcare environment. The course uses real-life examples, videos, animations, quizzes and assessments to keep the learner engaged throughout. With content delivered straight to the users, it removes the need to hold or attend expensive training conferences.
