Health minister launches IEC campaign to curb infodemic

Over 8 lakh beneficiaries vaccinated, 82 AEFIs reported by end of fifth day

Commenting that while countries across the globe are asking India for access to vaccines, a section within the country is “fomenting misinformation and doubts for narrow political ends,”  Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare unveiled IEC posters to address the emerging issue of vaccine hesitancy in some sections of population.

Joined by Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Dr V K Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog, Dr Vardhan urged people to follow the truth and seek correct Information from authentic sources.

As of January 21, 2021, 7 AM, a total of 8,06,484 beneficiaries have received the vaccination, as per the health ministry statement.  In the last 24 hours, 1,31,649 people were vaccinated across 2,398 sessions. 14,118 sessions has been conducted so far.

82 adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs) have been reported till 6 pm on January 20, the fifth day of the vaccination drive,  with no case of serious/severe AEFI  attributable to vaccination till date, as per a health ministry statement.

Uttarakhand,  Chhattisgarh and  Rajasthan reported one AEFI each and all have been discharged.

Of the four AEFIs in Delhi, three have been discharged, while one was under observation at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Shahdara.

Of the two AEFIs reported in Karnataka, one was discharged, and the other was under observation at District Hospital, Chitradurga.

West Bengal’s single AEFI so far, was under observation at Sub-Divisional Hospital, Jangipura, Murshidabad
