HLL expands healthcare portfolio beyond family planning to focus on population health

PSU broadens its healthcare offerings with medical devices, diagnostics, affordable medicines and home healthcare services

HLL Lifecare Limited (HLL), a Mini Ratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has expanded its mission beyond population control to encompass population health while continuing to support the Central Government’s family planning programmes.

The announcement coincides with World Population Day 2026, which highlights the importance of investing in people’s health and well-being. According to the company, the expanded focus is reflected in its healthcare portfolio, which includes medical devices, reproductive and maternal healthcare products, menstrual hygiene products, affordable medicines and diagnostic services. Its reproductive healthcare portfolio comprises condoms, oral contraceptives, emergency contraceptive pills, pregnancy detection kits, intrauterine devices, including the indigenously developed EMILY LNG-IUS, and maternal and gynaecological products.

Commenting on the initiative, the company stated, “World Population Day 2026 is a reminder that investing in people’s health, particularly that of young people, is essential to building healthier and more resilient societies. HLL is expanding its healthcare portfolio to meet emerging public health needs while reaffirming its longstanding commitment to family planning and reproductive healthcare. Innovation remains central to this journey, with their dedicated research and development efforts driving the creation of affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare products and services.”

According to HLL, its research and development initiatives have led to the development of medical technologies, including Happy Days Earth, a compostable sanitary napkin designed to support menstrual hygiene. The company stated that the product complies with BIS 2025 standards and incorporates compostable materials, reduced plastic waste, zero microplastic generation, safer disposal and product performance.

The company also highlighted its efforts to improve access to healthcare through its network of AMRIT Pharmacies and HINDLABS. According to HLL, AMRIT Pharmacies provide discounts of up to 50 per cent on life-saving medicines, implants and medical supplies, while HINDLABS offers diagnostic services at prices that are generally 30 per cent to 60 per cent lower than prevailing market rates.

Building on this model, HLL has expanded its presence through AMRIT Plus Pharmacies, Specialty HINDLABS and HLL Home Healthcare Services. The company stated that AMRIT Plus offers healthcare retail services, while Specialty HINDLABS provides diagnostic services, including genomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS) and molecular diagnostics.

HLL Home Healthcare Services provides nursing, post-operative care, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, elderly care, chronic disease management, diagnostic services and teleconsultation support at patients’ homes.
