India crosses testing milestone of more than 13 crore tests

As of November 21, 2020, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has reported that 10,66,022 samples were tested in the last 24 hours which took India’s total cumulative COVID-19 tests to 13,06,57,808.

As per the ICMR site, 5,97,63,550 RT-PCR samples were collected as of November 21, 2020.

The last one crore tests were conducted in a span of 10 days, with an average of more than 10 lakh tests conducted daily. The cumulative national Positivity Rate stands at 6.93 per cent presently, less than the 7 per cent mark.  The daily positivity rate yesterday was 4.34 per cent, with the Ministry report pointing out that higher volumes of testing eventually lead to low positivity rate.

24 States/UTs have a conducted more tests per million population than India as a whole while 12 States/UTs have lower tests per million than the national average, and have been advised to substantially ramp up the levels of testing.

The last 24 hours recorded 46,232 new cases, 49,715 new recoveries, and 564 deaths due to COVID-19.
