The cancer screening was organised to identify cancer before the symptoms appear
JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur organised a series of women’s wellness events in collaboration with HCG Cancer Centre, Jaipur. Cancer awareness session, a free general health check-up, and free cancer screening was provided to the all women on campus including students, staff, faculty members, their dependants, and contract workers and their family members. The series events aimed at providing awareness to all women about their health and lifestyle habits that could lead to any type of cancer. The cancer screening was organised to identify cancer before the symptoms appear. More than 100 employees, their family member and students were examined in the camp and availed the benefit of free medical check-up and their pathological examination.
In addition, a free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test was also arranged for men on campus. The Cancer Awareness Session was divided into two parts: 1) a session on ‘Prevention & Early Detection of Cancer’ and 2) a session on ‘Women’s Health: Food & Lifestyle’
Mr SR Pandey, Chief of HR & Administration, JK Lakshmipat University said, “Women often prioritise their families’ wellbeing and their work over their own health. Due to ignorance, fear and social stigma many women fail to get their cancer detected early which may require surgery or extensive treatment. Such screening & health awareness camps to all women can result in better health seeking behaviour along with early detection of cancer. As rightly said that when you educate a woman you educate the whole family, these sessions will not only help us improve the health & life of people at campus but also of their families.
Dr Ruchi Sharma, Medical Officer, HCG Cancer Centre, Jaipur said, “We are delighted to be able to interact with women of all walks of life at JKLU and provide them the information on cancer and related diseases. It is really appreciable that JKLU is taking such initiatives for all the women on campus. If you analyse the cancer burden in the country, the incidence of cancer among women is more than men. Hence, it is very important to sensitise women about early screening, prevention, symptoms & treatment of cancer”.
