MD Anderson team visits Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital

Demonstrates latest robotic surgery techniques for cancer treatment

An international team of experts from MD Anderson Cancer Center visited Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital recently as part of a consulting agreement between the two institutions.

Dr Ashish Kamat, Professor and Attending Surgeon & Director of Urologic Oncology, performed a live surgery demonstrating the finer points of robotic radical prostatectomy with regards to nerve sparing and bladder neck sparing, both of which add to patients’ outcomes.

Dr David Rice, Professor of Thoracic Oncology, lectured and displayed videos of robotic surgery for thoracic cancer and emphasised how Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital was the ‘perfect place for innovation in this field’.

Dr Aparna Kamat, Director of Gynec Oncology at Houston Methodist Hospital, also performed a live surgery, demonstrating for the first time a robotic hysterectomy with staging node dissection.

This the first visit by a team of specialists from the MD Anderson Cancer Center and is part of a consulting tie-up with Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital.
