Sakra World Hospital has announced the appointment of Tandem Healthcare to design and construct its second hospital in North Bengaluru. Spanning 6.8 lakh square feet, the 500-bed facility will integrate biophilic design principles, including garden lounges, green balconies, and views of an adjoining lake. Scheduled to be completed within 30 months, the hospital will mark Sakra’s second major infrastructure expansion in Bengaluru.
The new hospital will be built at a project cost of Rs 1,000 crore. Sakra World Hospital, India’s first 100 per cent FDI tertiary care hospital, operates in collaboration with Japan-based Secom Medical System and Toyota Tsusho. The upcoming facility will be developed over G+9 floors, incorporating Indo-Japanese architectural elements aimed at enhancing operational functionality and patient-centred care.
The hospital will feature advanced clinical programmes, including comprehensive cancer treatment with LINAC, MR-LINAC, Gamma Knife, Brachytherapy, and nuclear medicine. Specialised services will include Interventional Neuro and Rehabilitation, Cardiology, and a Mother & Child programme with a premium C-Suite. Infrastructure features include a paperless system, RFID tracking, pandemic preparedness, modular operating theatres integrated with a Building Management System, and comprehensive air quality monitoring.
Tandem Healthcare has designed the building with a focus on sustainability. The east-west orientation minimises heat gain and optimises views. Slanted GFRC panels provide privacy and light, while green roofs help reduce cooling loads. The building will use aluminium composite panels and low-e glazing to improve energy efficiency. Semi-open cafés and canopies will enhance natural ventilation, reducing the need for air-conditioning.
“We are thrilled to partner with Tandem Healthcare to bring our vision of a world-class healthcare facility to life,” said Yuichi Nagano, Managing Director, Sakra World Hospital. “This collaboration combines Japanese precision with Tandem’s healthcare facility expertise, ensuring a hospital that sets new benchmarks in clinical excellence and patient care.”
Alok Sharma, Founder and Director of Tandem Healthcare, said the project reflects a shared commitment to patient-focused infrastructure: “Tandem believes that healthcare infrastructure must go beyond functionality to inspire healing and trust.”
Ahzam Khan, Director and CEO of Tandem Healthcare, added that the hospital’s design integrates sustainability and technology, “Our green biophilic design, inspired by the tranquillity of Japanese gardens, integrates sustainability, advanced technology, and patient-centric spaces to create a healing environment.”
The facility is targeting USGBC LEED Platinum certification and will adhere to the UN’s Central Product Classification for sustainable infrastructure. An independent green consultancy will oversee compliance.
Naoya Matsumi, Deputy Managing Director, Sakra World Hospital, said, “This facility is a testament to our mission of integrating cutting-edge technology with compassionate care.”
The new hospital complements Sakra’s existing 350-bed tertiary care centre in Marathahalli. “This facility is a strategic leap forward—not just in scale, but in how healthcare is imagined and delivered,” said Lovekesh Phasu, Group Chief Operating Officer, Sakra World Hospital.
