Steps taken to expand healthcare services through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

Over 38 crore teleconsultations and 5.79 crore wellness sessions conducted at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, according to Health Ministry’s update in Rajya Sabha

Comprehensive primary healthcare services are being delivered through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) by upgrading Sub Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), according to the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav. The information was provided in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

AAMs are providing preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, and curative services that include management of communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), reproductive and child healthcare, and other general health conditions.

Primary healthcare teams conduct home visits to identify risk factors among individuals. This is followed by screenings conducted at the AAMs, which enables early detection of NCDs. Identified cases are referred to PHCs and higher healthcare facilities for further evaluation and treatment by specialist doctors.

All operational AAMs across the country, including those in rural areas, offer teleconsultation services. These services aim to address issues related to physical access to healthcare and shortages of medical professionals, while ensuring continuity of care. According to the Health Ministry, a total of 38.13 crore teleconsultations have been conducted through AAMs to date.

In addition to illness management, AAMs also promote preventive healthcare through wellness activities. These include yoga, meditation, and cycling sessions. A total of 5.79 crore wellness sessions have been conducted at AAMs across the country.

The Ayushman Arogya Mandir initiative is part of the broader efforts to strengthen comprehensive primary healthcare infrastructure and delivery in India.
