Thalassemia screening is a must: Experts

Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital launched Thalassemia Centre and BMT Clinic in its premises

A study confirms with around 1,00,000 patients, India is one of the countries with largest number of Thalassemia patients. Another data says that every year around 10,000 children are born with Thalassemia. With regular medications, timely hospital visits, blood transfusion in every 2 to 3 weeks the management of Thalassemia is considered to be one of the complex treatments. Even during COVID pandemic also management of Thalassemia patients’ treatment got massively affected. Ensuring the reach of right treatment to every thalassemia patient is the need of the hour. Taking this concern forward recently Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital launched Thalassemia Centre and BMT Clinic in its premises.

A conference was organised for the announcement of the Centre. Sharing their views Shobha Tuli, Secretary- Thalassemia India, Vice President- Thalassemia International Federation, President- Federation of Indian Thalassemic and J. S. Arora, General Secretary of National Thalassemia Welfare Society and Federation of Indian Thalassemic highlighted the need of wider Thalassemia screening and timely treatment to every patient. Dr S Khanna, President and Founder of Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre and Commander Navneet Bali, Regional Director, North India, Narayana Health emphasised that the importance of right management of Thalassemia treatment. Dr S Khanna said that Thalassemia screening is a must for timely clinical interventions.
