COE accreditation is an outcome of an audit to assess standard of care pursued by a bariatric programme

Wockhardt Hospitals has received the Center of Excellence (COE) accreditation for its Center of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery programme headed by Dr Ramen Goel, a gastro-intestinal surgeon.

COE accreditation for bariatric surgery is an outcome of an audit to assess standard of care pursued by a bariatric programme. Reportedly, this certification puts a seal on safety and quality processes followed by an institution, in line with international standards and ensures that patient is assured highest possible bariatric care in any part of the world. This verifies that systems (SOPs) are in place for pre-op evaluation, hospital preparedness, surgical checklists and follow up protocols.

The audit involves verification by international inspectors of patient data, physical inspection of hospital infrastructure, assessment of hospital staff preparedness and willingness of participation in international patient registry. This is subject to annual renewal and three yearly inspections. This is only considered for surgeons doing minimum 125 bariatric surgeries a year.

“COE recognition is an assurance of quality and safe care to patients planning bariatric surgery. Wockhardt Hospital is the first institution to get COE accreditation within 15 months of starting the bariatric programme,” shares Dr Ramen Goel, Director, Center of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, Wockhardt Hospitals.
