AMTZ launches empowerment centre to support entrepreneurship for people with disabilities

The initiative provides training, seed funding, and long-term mentorship to enable financial independence for Divyangjans

Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has launched the empowerment centre for people with disabilities to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for Divyangjans in rural areas. In collaboration with the Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneurship Association (IDEA), the initiative offers entrepreneurship training, seed funding, market linkages, and long-term mentorship to support Divyangjans in becoming business owners and skilled professionals.

The initiative commenced at the Assistive Technology Centre of AMTZ with a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Training Programme for the first batch of 30 Divyangjans from 14 villages near the MedTech Zone. Expert trainers conducted the programme to equip participants with the necessary skills to establish their businesses, supported by seed funding, market linkages, and two years of mentorship.

AMTZ is also generating direct employment opportunities within its ecosystem and supporting Divyangjan entrepreneurs by procuring their products, ensuring sustained economic participation. This integrated model of entrepreneurship and employment aims to bridge the gap between skill development and financial independence.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and CEO of AMTZ, stated, “At AMTZ, we support Divyangjans not just with artificial limbs and assistive devices but also by enabling sustainable livelihoods, unlocking their true potential.”

IDEA, a not-for-profit organisation working across 11 states, focuses on training and mentoring Divyangjans. Mallikarjuna Iytha, Founder and CEO of IDEA, said, “IDEA resonates with AMTZ’s mission of empowerment. Through skill development and entrepreneurship, we aim to uplift Divyangjans and make them active contributors to society and the economy.”

AMTZ and IDEA plan to expand the programme across Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh, reaching more Divyangjans and providing them with resources to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Divyangjans interested in joining the programme and organisations looking to support the initiative can connect with the Assistive Technology Centre at AMTZ.
