HOSMAC launches Urban Health Data Platform for healthcare infrastructure mapping in India

Research-based digital platform maps healthcare infrastructure to support planning, policy, research and investment decisions

HOSMAC has announced the launch of the Urban Health Data Platform (UHDP), a research-based digital platform designed to help healthcare stakeholders understand India’s healthcare infrastructure through interactive mapping and analytics.

According to the company, the beta version of the platform has been developed through research, data validation and computational expertise. It enables users to map hospitals based on ownership and geographical location, providing data to support healthcare planning, policy formulation, research and investment decisions.

HOSMAC stated that healthcare planning in India has been constrained by fragmented and dispersed data. The company developed the Urban Health Data Platform to consolidate validated healthcare datasets into a single interactive platform that stores, visualises and analyses information. According to the company, the platform combines a healthcare database with an interface that enables users to filter, compare and interpret healthcare infrastructure across regions.

The company stated that the beta version focuses on cancer care infrastructure across India and maps nearly 700 government, trust-owned and private cancer hospitals. It analyses patient catchment areas based on travel distance and road connectivity to identify served and underserved regions. Users can also access demographic and socio-economic information, including population, hospital ownership patterns and regional healthcare coverage.

According to HOSMAC, the platform enables users to simulate infrastructure planning by virtually adding a proposed hospital to a location and assessing its impact on healthcare accessibility and patient catchment areas. The company stated that analysis of the Nanded region in Maharashtra indicates that a government cancer hospital in the district could improve access for populations travelling more than 200 kilometres for treatment and reduce the burden on neighbouring facilities.

The platform also provides comparative analysis across metropolitan regions. According to the company, preliminary analysis shows that Kolkata has one of the largest cancer care catchments by population, while Chennai has a more compact catchment supported by its cancer care network. The company further stated that Mumbai and Delhi benefit from surrounding satellite cities that improve regional healthcare accessibility.

Commenting on the launch, Dr Vivek Desai, Founder and Managing Director, HOSMAC, said, “The Urban Health Data Platform reflects our commitment to democratising healthcare intelligence and empowering stakeholders with meaningful, research-backed insights. India requires data-driven healthcare planning now more than ever. By making validated healthcare information accessible through an interactive platform, we hope to support better investment decisions, stronger healthcare delivery systems, and more equitable access to care.”

According to HOSMAC, future versions of the Urban Health Data Platform will include additional healthcare datasets, hospital typologies and analytical capabilities. The company stated that these will include variables such as hospital capacity, affordability, medical equipment, treatment costs, demographic trends, government empanelment and care pathways.

HOSMAC stated that the platform has been designed for hospital owners, healthcare administrators, consultants, policymakers, researchers, investors and public health professionals.
