Lord’s Mark Industries has received a manufacturing licence for an In Vitro Diagnostic Software (Software as a Medical Device – SaMD) for its Biomescan Analytics Platform. The development comes as interest in gut health and microbiome-based testing grows in India.
The human gut contains trillions of microorganisms that play a role in digestion, immunity, metabolism and other aspects of health. Research has increasingly explored links between the gut microbiome and conditions including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and digestive disorders.
Biomes can analyses an individual’s gut microbiome using bioinformatics to provide information on microbial diversity, metabolic functions, disease susceptibility indicators and dietary recommendations.
The platform is licensed as a wellness and health-information tool and is not intended for standalone clinical diagnosis or therapeutic decision-making. The company also plans to explore the use of gut testing in the fertility segment.
The company said the platform is intended to support preventive health practices by providing information that can be used alongside nutrition and lifestyle interventions. Healthcare professionals may use the findings to guide dietary and lifestyle recommendations based on an individual’s microbiome profile.
Lord’s Mark Industries plans to establish Health and Wellness Centres in collaboration with hospitals, doctors and healthcare institutions. According to the company, it plans to establish 3,000 centres across India over the next three years and launch app-based services. The company also said the test results could be used to guide dietary choices and protein formulations for individuals.
Commenting on the development, Sachidanand Upadhyay, Managing Director, Lord’s Mark Industries said, “Healthcare is moving from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. Our vision is to empower every individual with scientific insights into their own health before disease develops. Biomescan represents a new era where genomics and nutrition come together to create truly personalized wellness. Through partnerships with hospitals and medical professionals across India, we aim to make preventive healthcare accessible, affordable and impactful for millions.”
The platform combines whole metagenome sequencing data with a bioinformatics pipeline to generate gut microbiome profiles, diversity scores, enterotype classification, functional metabolic assessments and nutritional recommendations.
With non-communicable diseases accounting for a growing share of India’s healthcare burden, microbiome research and other approaches to understanding individual health risks are receiving increased attention. Lord’s Mark Industries said it plans to expand the use of Biomescan through its proposed network of centres and app-based services.
